Hello Englewood Faith Community! Today we gathered to celebrate Pentecost, to be challenged to live into the radical spirit of love and compassion in a divided world.

If you were not able to join us in person this week for our worship service, you can watch the recorded service using the links below:

Announcements

1. Today after service we held a short congregational vote. If you were not present for that meeting today, you can still participate in the voting on our Wide Welcome statement by clicking here. Voting is open until midnight tonight.

2. There were also building updates shared today in our congregational meeting. These included:

- We have borrowed money against our endowment to take care of some much needed capital improvements on the building. These include the replacement of both boilers in our building, repairing the leaks in our roof, and repairing the skylight in the Sanctuary that is also leaking. This money will be paid back in full to our endowment in monthly payments over eight years. Montessori will also be paying a monthly payment to help cover the boiler replacement costs as long as they remain in the building.

- We received a technology grant from the region recently and are using it to install a TV in the Narthex that will be used to stream announcements throughout the week as well as show the video feed of our service if sitting out in that area is more sensory friendly for someone. This will be installed this coming Saturday at our church workday.

- We also received a grant to help with our first Xeriscaping project that will take place in October. It will be the long, narrow patch of grass between the parking lot and the road that we will convert first. Stay tuned for more information about ways to be involved in this important project.

- Finally, we shared that our leadership has been meeting with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Yakima about the possibility of them space sharing our building with us. This would include us moving our current library down to classroom four at the end of the hall to give us a bigger meeting space and letting the UU church use the current library as an office. This is also why you have seen the work to move and organize our craft supplies into the hallway recently. We have some custom built doors to cover that new storage space that will be installed this week. We will also be installing some curtains in the Fellowship Hall between the posts where we stack our extra chairs. This will help this space to look a little cleaner. The UU Church would be meeting in the Fellowship Hall. These conversations are in their final stages and we will share an update on dates, service times, and other details as they become available. This is a great partnership that would allow both of us to be wise with our resources and model what it looks like for faith communities to work together for the greater good of our community!

If you have questions or concerns about any of these updates, please reach out to me and we can connect.

3. We have planned a work day here at the church next Saturday from 9 AM-Noon. If you are able to help, we will be cleaning and organizing several spaces inside and doing some landscape work outside.

4. Englewood will be participating in Yakima Pride on Saturday, June 21st. You can register to walk in the parade with us or help out at our booth by clicking here. If you have any questions about this community connection, please reach out to me!

5. We have created several new Englewood T-Shirts!!!! The first one that is available first is this design below to celebrate our Wide Welcome Initiative. We are having 50 of these shirts printed locally so that those who want to wear them to Pride can have them. The cost for these locally printed ones will be $18 each. You can reserve a shirt for yourself and your family by clicking here.

In July, we will have this shirt and several others that will be available on our website through an online store that we have set up where you can get shirts, coffee cups, bags, and more. All the proceeds from these purchases will go to support our Englewood Cares Fund. We will share the link with you in July when that store is live.

Joys and Concerns

  • Kathy Helseth finished her final radiation treatment for this first cycle earlier this week. She and David are now waiting her MRI which will happen in early July.

  • Ronnie Grey is continuing to recover from back surgery here in Yakima at Good Samaritan and making good progress!

  • Please join us in praying for unity and healing in our divided world.

Upcoming Events to Connect

As always, if you need anything this week or there is any way that I can support you- please reach out to me.

Blessings,
