Good afternoon everyone! We had an out of the box day today at Englewood during our weekly worship service! Instead of meeting in the Sanctuary, we gathered in the Fellowship Hall to finish up our Critical Conversation series that we have been doing all summer.

Instead of another panel conversation today, we all sat around tables with one another and each table became it’s own panel. I prompted us with several questions for us to use to get to know each other better:

  1. Introduce yourself and what talent you would show off if you were in a talent show.

  2. Share what the church means to you.

  3. Go around the table and share your high and low; something you are excited about and something that is a challenge for you right now.

  4. Share something that you have learned about faith recently, a way that you have experienced something holy, or a characteristic of holiness that has been meaningful to you in this season of life.

We did not stream service today so that everyone could feel free to open up and talk.

At the end of our table conversations, I challenged us as a faith community to be aware of how often we get into the routine of church: always sitting in the same places, talking to the same people, and gathering in the same space. The critical aspect of this conversation is that if we want a relational faith community, then we have to be intentional to engage with others, meet new people, and not always spend time with the same people week after week.

Next week, we will be back in the sanctuary, and our online service stream will be back as well.

Announcements

We have a table set up outside the church office that has the school supply lists for Garfield Elementary. If you are interested in purchasing supplies for students, you can bring them back through the end of August and set them on the same table outside the office.

We are also continuing to collect $50 gas cards for the Yakima Immigrant Response Network that can be used by impacted families to access legal council and resources after a loved one is taking into custody by Immigration Enforcement. These can be dropped off in the church office or dropped in the offering basket during Sunday services.

On Wednesday, we will be hosting NAMI’s FaithNet meeting at 11:30 AM in the Fireside Room. The topic will be “Navigating Back-To-School in a trauma-informed way.” Anyone who is interested is welcome to join us.

This coming Friday at 8:30 PM will be our last outdoor movie night in the back grass behind our church. We will be watching Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
