Hello Englewood Community,
Today was quite a day! We missed many of you that were at the Car Show or out of town as we celebrated our Earth Day service today.
Early in service, there was a scary situation as Becky Buell came forward to help us read the Canticle of Creation and passed out unresponsive. We were grateful to have the quick thinking and quick action of a physician in service today who was able to help Becky. 911 was called and Becky was taken to Memorial Hospital as a precaution. She has found the cause to be an infection that they are treating with antibiotics. She wanted me to stress to you all that, "I am fine."
If you were not with us in person today for this scary situation, it does show up in our livestream so be prepared for that if you are watching service back on our YouTube Channel or Facebook Page. Please be aware that because of some of the events in service, there are some sound challenges to parts of our service this week online.
Announcements that were shared today:
Reminder that next Sunday is our first Sunday Potluck right after service! If you are new to Englewood and would like to make your plate next week and join Christie in the Fireside room to learn more about Englewood and how to get involved, you have that option.
Also next week is our first annual Englewood's Got Talent Event on Friday night (5/2) at 6 PM. We will be having a taco bar for dinner and entertainment from many of those connected to our faith community! This will be a chance to also give a love offering to support our new Englewood Cares Fund that will be used to meet needs in our community.
During the start of my sermon today, I shared the new that Englewood has been named a Green Chalice Congregation by the Disciples of Christ. This was one of our five year goals that we shared in November. You can learn more about what it means to be a Green Chalice church by clicking here.
This afternoon, we had Cooperative Youth Group at Wesley United Methodist Church. We had pizza, conversations, and a chance to walk the new labyrinth that Wesley has installed and talk about mindfulness with the youth. It was a good day! We also had fun planning our next Youth Group activity which will be on June 22nd at Wesley.
Joys and Concerns:
We have many individuals in our church facing health challenges right now. Please lift these up in thought and prayer this week:
1. Kathy Helseth began cancer treatments this week.
2. Ronnie Grey is in Harborview Medical Center in Seattle recovering from a spinal infection and the first of several surgeries to help clear those areas out.
3. Curtis Young was visiting his sister in Portland and had a medical episode that led to them putting a pacemaker in for him this morning in Portland. He said the procedure went well and he is already feeling better and hoping to be back in Yakima this week.
4. Pat Fouts and Casey Asbell have been fighting an illness for several weeks and still not feeling great.
5. Becky Buell as she recovers from the events of today and heals from what caused her to pass out.
There are others in our community who are also facing pain and illness but have not given permission to share details. Please be thinking of those that are dealing with health challenges right now.
This is the fifth Wednesday of the month, so there is not a Coffee and Questions or Religious Trauma Support Group this week.
As always, if you need anything, please reach out and let me know how I can support you!
