In memory of George Roulston
and in honor of Black
History Month.

Funded in part by Englewood Christian Church, George & Delila  Roulston
and Yakima Rotary.


After School Drum Camp will bring master drummers together with students from Gilbert and Garfield Elementary Schools. Kids will discover North, West and South African culture through drumming, singing and dance. There will be snacks, crafts and games from Africa and a performance by the children and the teachers.  


After School Drum Camp is free and runs from 3:30-7:00 pm daily. 

February 6-10, 2023


Student participants are chosen through their  respective schools.

Final Performance featuring students and teachers. Friday February 10th from 7:00-8:30pm at Englewood Christian Church, 511 North 44th Ave, Yakima.

Free African Drumming Workshops for Adults

in association with After School Drum Camp and honoring Black History Month

funded by Englewood Christian Church and Yakima Rotary

 

February 7,  7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Egyptian Tabla/Doumbek with Susu Pampanin

We will cover a variety of rhythms commonly used in North African popular and folkloric traditions which may include Algerian, Tunisian, Moroccan, Libyan and Egyptian.  No experience is required.  We will warm up, learn basic technique for creating clear sounds, do drills and end with a rhythmic journey through parts of North Africa.

Marimba with Sheree Seretse

Come experience the music of the Shona people of Zimbabwe through learning a song on the Marimba. Marimbas are essentially xylophones with wooden keys. The instruments range from approximately three feet in length to over five feet in height.

 

“If you use your eyes, ears and hands, you can play the marimba”. No experience necessary! The ensemble format is conducive for beautiful interactive polyrhythmic and polyphonic sounds. COME JOIN THE FUN!
